Music Hath Charms to Soothe the Crazy Beagle

Obviously, I can get a little crazy around the house during the day, That is what Crazy Beagles do. I like to bark a lot. I bark at almost anything for any reason; at other dogs, when it rains, when it snows, when I want to go outside, when I want food, when I want to go upstairs, when I want to go downstairs. It’s because…I’m a Crazy Beagle.

But when my owners play jazz or classical music, I become calm and quiet. For some strange reason, I want to sleep, and sleep, and sleep. It works especially well when a thunderstorm approaches and I go into my safe room, the laundry room, and they play classical music and I am safe and quiet.

Music Hath Charms to Soothe the Crazy Beagle. Apparently, there has been much research done on how music can calm a dog. I never knew! The following video explains how and why.

Now I am off to get my smoking jacket, my favorite magazine Doggie Delights, and listen to some good classical and just chill out.

Have a Crazy and Happy President’s Day!

The Crazy Beagle says have a crazy and Happy President’s Day!  I hope many of you are enjoying the day off and taking time to play with your beagles and dogs.  Some of you may be shoveling all the snow from the last few storms.  Come on Spring!

On this day it is important to remember the President who took loved and took care of the most beagles during their administration.  Because of this, my favorite President is…Lyndon B. Johnson.

President Johnson and his family originally had two beagles: Him and Her.  Him and Her, the most well known of the President Johnson’s dogs, were registered beagles born on June 27, 1963. The President frequently played with the dogs and was often photographed with them. In 1964, President Johnson raised the ire of many when he lifted Him by his ears while greeting a group on the White House lawn.

Him sired a litter of puppies born in October 1965. President Johnson’s daughter, Luci, kept two of the puppies, Kim and Freckles. Luci first named Freckles, “Pecosa,” Spanish for a single freckle, but the puppy eventually became known as Freckles. Kim and Freckles were Luci’s dogs. Kim moved to Texas with Luci after her marriage to Pat Nugent, but Freckles remained at the White House with the President.

Her died at the White House in November 1964, after she swallowed a stone. Him died in June 1966, when he was hit by a car while chasing a squirrel on the White House lawn. When the Johnson’s left the White House, Freckles was adopted by a White House staff member.

After Him died in 1966, J. Edgar Hoover, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a former neighbor of President Johnson’s, gave the President another beagle. The President named the dog J. Edgar, but later dropped the “J.” and called the dog Edgar. When Johnson left the White House, Edgar moved to the LBJ Ranch.

No other President had beagles (are you listening President Obama, you still have a chance to adopt me).  The following video tells the story of LBJ’s love for his dogs.

Happy Valentine’s Day from The Crazy Beagle

Happy Valentine’s Day to all! Like the Cat (I’m actually quoting a cat?) Stevens’ song says:

Another Saturday night and I ain’t got nobody
I’ve got some money ’cause I just got paid
Now, how I wish I had someone to talk to
I’m in an awful way

Happy Valentines Day from The Crazy Beagle

Well, I mean I don’t have that special canine to be with on Valentine’s Day. Oh, I usually see my dog and beagle friends on my walks and I know my owners love me, but it’s just not the same.

I am doing what any dog without a “main squeeze” is doing: sleep, sleep, and sleep. I am also working on my tan. Happy Valentines Day from The Crazy Beagle

Is there any dog out there for me? Maybe there’s an eHarmony, actually bHarmony (b for beagle) for me.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Crazy Beagle Bites the Hand That Feeds Him

The Crazy Beagle Bites the Hand That Feeds HimI have a good dog life here with my owners.  So why would I do this terrible deed…I grabbed a chicken bone from the open trash container before my owner could close it. It was very bad but tasted so good.

I ran away from him like a scared chicken and continued to eat the bone as he tried to dislodge it from my jaws.  He wasn’t so angry that I “stole” the bone from the trash as he was about what the chicken bone could do to me.  My fellow beagles and canine friends, don’t ever, ever, ever eat chicken bones or let your owner feed you chicken bones.  The reason being is that chicken bones are very dangerous for dogs. Chicken bones can very easily can splinter in the our mouths and cause us to choke and possibly die. Let me say it again:

Splintered chicken bones can cause choking and possible death.

I feel bad. I know I did a very bad thing and caused my owner much anxiety. I would like to apology to my owner for putting him and the family through this situation. I can’t promise I will never do it again (I’m a crazy beagle), but I will do better in the future.

More Snow and Cold Weather, No Surprise

Talking about the usual, we received more snow (even though just a dusting) today.  Along with the snow came strong winds and cold temperatures.  Sonic the Crazy Beagle is sick and tired of snow, wind, and the cold weather.  How about you?

Thank goodness my owner’s father lets me sleep in his toasty office sofa during the day.  Plus he has plenty of sunshine that comes in through his windows.  I love being in his office.

Well, more snow expected tonight.  Everybody be safe and warm.
